We signed Carter up for a summer baseball league with a few buddies from his school. He has been interested in baseball for a while so we figured it was a good time to give it a try since we would be stuck in Atlanta for most of the summer.
So far it has gone pretty well. The week night games are rough with Carter's attention span and he has a good friend on the team that he frequently prefers wrestling with to playing. But overall the first month has gone well.
It is a laid-back league. The kids get 5 coach pitches before bringing out the tee. Carter get a non-Tee hit about every other game. Each child bats every other inning and there are no outs. Everyone gets to first base and there is no score. They play 4 innings. On defense, the kids basically spread out in the infield so Carter has played everywhere from first to third and pitcher.
Some of the games have been brutally hot which is a pain for mom and the boys but overall so far,so good. Colin is the assistant coach to one of Carter's friends dad who coached his soccer team last fall. And mom is team mom (we seem to be permanently in these roles!).
We have learned that having mom on the field during games isn't productive as Carter just wants to stay with mom and won't run the bases or go farther than first base to field a ball.
Here are some pictures from the first half of the season.

We have made banners for the kids to run through for a few games. Carter wasn't too sure about it. |
