Instead of having 4th of July fireworks, Smyrna has a birthday celebration the first weekend each August. The birthday party includes live music, birthday cake, kid's activities and fireworks. Though the forecast called for some rain, we decided to give it a try because the boys were so excited about the fireworks (they were talking about them all week). Dad found a nice spot for our picnic blanket and mom's chair where she could rest. Mom was able to get some quiet moments as Carter quickly located some friends from school (Alexandra and Kennedy) who asked if he would go to the jumpy houses with them. So Dad and Carter quickly grabbed Parker and headed off to the jumpy houses. Parker has made some big strides in his physical abilities this summer and wouldn't let Carter get the best of him on the jumpy houses this time. He made it up every one without assistance following Carter as fast as he could.
The boys came back just in time for a quick rain shower which gave mom some snuggle time with the kids while dad took shelter under a nearby tree.
The rain quickly passed and we headed off to find some of the boy's other friends in the sea of people. It's nice to live in a "small town"at events like these, because you run into all sorts of people you know. We met up with the Gomez boys (Andre and Alex) by the fire truck and the four boys immediately linked hands to locate the best fireworks viewing area (too cute).
It started getting dark so we pulled out some glow sticks and light up glasses...
And settled in for the fireworks.
It was a fun night... Little did we know this would be our last evening as a family of four.
Happy Birthday Smyrna!
