On our second day in La Fortuna, we went whitewater rafting on the Sarapiqui River. We were originally booked on a location closer to town but overnight heavy rains were too much for Rio Balsa so we headed towards the Nicaragua River for a mostly class II/III experience. We had our own boat with the boys in the front, mom/dad in the back and Avery hanging in the middle. Thankfully we had a very senior guide because the river was moving fast and the boys were tossed around quite a bit in the front. There was some adventure along the way when one of the other rafts flipped twice dumping everyone, several of who ended up going down some heavy rapids on their own (needless to say that boat quite soon after). Thankfully we all stayed in the raft and were able to celebrate with a local lunch before resting our worn out arms in the Hot Springs for the evening.

For our last full day in La Fortuna, we had a guided hike to La Fortuna waterfall and lunch at a local restaurant. Unfortunately the heavy rain didn't allow for swimming at the waterfall but we still hiked the 500 steps down (and then back up) to see the sight. We spend the rest of the afternoon and evening at the hot springs before getting ready to head to our next location the following day.
