Spooky-Ree

This Saturday required an early wake up for the boys as Carter's Cub Scout pack had their first camp out.  Luckily for Parker, siblings were also invited, so all the Holden boys left the ladies (Avery and Mom) in Atlanta and headed about an hour east to Bert Adams Boy Scout Ranch for the Spooky-Ree Cub Scout Camp.  We arrived just in time for the opening ceremony and flag raising, then it was off to explore the camp and all the activities they had setup for the boys (more than 900 Cub Scouts were in attendance from as far away as Texas).  We quickly found our campsite, and then ran to the closest activity, sling shots.  The boys may need a few reps in the weight room before trying again, but they had a great time shooting the dried dog food at pie plate targets.

We then found a number of Carter's friends and fellow Tiger Cubs and spent the rest of the day doing all sorts of things.  Archery, water bottle rockets, pumpkin decorating, cart racing, BB guns, bouncy houses, and even a session with a local reptile man who had a number of snakes and lizards to share with the kids.

By dinner we were all pretty tired, but Carter and Parker kept up their activity by running all through the woods with Carter's friends.  The evening finished with the boys dressing up in their Halloween costumes and going to an all camp campfire followed by a trick-or-treating activity.  Needless to say, when it came time for bed, there were very few complaints from the whole group and all were easily asleep in their tents in minutes.

It was a great first Cub Scout camping event for all and we look forward to doing another once Spring comes around.
